He that is without sin among you. Let him cast the first stone. (John 8:1-11)
Saturday, October 17, 2009

One afternoon Jesus sat outside writing in the sand. He was thinking as he scribbled. But his thoughts were soon interrupted by a group of people who crowded around Him. They were pulling a woman into the group. They shoved her in front of Jesus and said, "See this woman! What a sinner she is. We caught her living with another man just as if she was married to him!"
They were talking fast because they were so excited. They have caught someone sinning and they had draaged her to Jesus. Finding fault with her was almost like fun. They even wanted to stone her to death!
Jesus completely ignored them. He acted like He was still alone. He continued writing in the sand and thinking.
But the crowd kept pushing the woman and calling,"Lord, don't you understand? This is a very wicked lady. She's done a terrible deed. Aren't you going to do anything to her or say anything at all?" They talked so proudly- just as they were perfect and never had sinned at all.
The woman blushed, because she was embarrassed. The crowd was right. She had sinned and they caught her living in another man's house. Nervously, she waited, wondering what would happen to her.
Finally Jesus said to the crowd. "Anyone of you that is perfect, has never done one sin, may throw the first stone." Then He looked down again and continued writing in the sand. The crowd quieted down. Everyone of them was looking into his own heart. They saw a lot of very bad sins inside themselves. Jesus had said that only the perfect ones could throw stones. One by one they silently left. They were ashamed. How proud they had been been to think that they were so good. They had no right to pick on someone who was no worse than they were.
In a short time everyone had left. The woman stood alone with Jesus. He got up and said to her,"I will not stone you either. Go now, and sin no more.

May this be an important life lesson to anyone who's reading this now. No one is perfect. Not me, not you. No one has the right to tell anyone off about their mistakes.
So in the future, before you tell anyone off, look in yourself.
